Wake up!

It was the thought that came to my head when I heard of the earthquake in Indonesia.

Imagining... 

What if that earthquake had instead hit my country? What state of mind and action would I be in? If something happened to me, would I be found in a state I would like to be found in? If I passed away, what state would I be raised in on the Day of Judgement?

Abbreviations... or 'ABBR'

Many times when I am reading a post on a forum, an email, etc, I see abbreviations.

I myself am not free of this, occasionally I will use the 'Salams' or 'iA' (Insha Allah) when messaging on the phone.

However, I find it rather strange when we use abbreviations like the above at the beginning of an email, post etc and then proceed to write a page worth of words that are longer than a simple 'Assalaamu Alaikum'.

When I was studying, I used to see students using the first letter of Salla Allahu Alayhi wa Sallam in their notes and exams. However, our teacher told us that it is best to write the complete durood rather than an abbreviation... after all, can we not take out the time to write a durood for the most beloved creation of Allah?

Since then I always wrote Salla Allahu Alayhi wa Sallam in complete. This however was in Arabic, and I would manage to write the durood in such a way that saved space, like so. 

 

However there are always those who will go beyond. Mufti Ebrahim Salejee saheb once mentioned about writing the durood in the same fashion I mentioned above. Not to quote him, but the point he was making was that why do you want to save space in a durood on Rasulullah Salla Allahu Alayhi wa Sallam? Why not write it in a straight line rather than box the durood? Is a durood not worth taking a little bit of extra time and space on a piece of paper?

I feel the same can be said for 'Assalaamu Alaikum', 'Insha Allah', 'Subhaanahu wa Ta'aala', and all those other duaas and praises that we abbreviate. If we can find the time to write long pieces of works with complicated words in English, then surely we can write down a few praises of Allah Ta'aala and His Nabi Salla Allahu Alayhi wa Sallam.

May Allah Ta'aala give us all the tawfeeq. Ameen.

Is it Permissible to Play “April Fool”?

The first of April is regarded as a day to play practical jokes on people. Generally a person is told something which perturbs or even shocks him. However he shortly thereafter realizes that what he was told is not true but it was rather a joke. According to the Shariah is it permissible to play such practical jokes on people?

Where is the Mercy?

I was looking out of the window today and saw my cat, who was approaching somebody. Said person picked up a stone and threw it at her. She winced and came to the door; I let her in. There was a rather ugly and sad feeling in my heart and I felt like crying.

Why is it that we are without mercy towards the creatures of Allah Ta'aala? Where has the mercy fled to? Have we forgotten the following Hadeeth from Musnad Ahmad?

“Show mercy so that you may be shown mercy, forgive and Allah will forgive you.”

The Favours of your Lord

I received a rose as a gift yesterday from a friend I never met, via another friend I only met twice.

Alhamdu Lillah for the favour of friends whose friendship is based on mutual love for the sake of Allah Ta'aala.

Alhamdu Lillah for the favour of the beautiful sight and scent of the red rose and the prickly thorns that accompany it everywhere.

And not to forgot tasting a fruit I had never eaten before, the jamun.

فَبِأَيِّ آلَاءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ

Then which of the favours of your Lord will ye deny?
